Seminars on International Memorial Day

According to a resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in November 2005, International Holocaust Day takes place on the 27th of January.

Resolution 60/7 is called "Holocaust Remembrance" and in the introductory clauses the universal proclamation of human rights, the United Nations Charter and the Treaty for Punishment and Prevention of Genocide are mentioned….the resolution also mentions that one third of the Jewish nation and other minorities were exterminated in the Holocaust. Ever since the Association adopted the naval unit, it has run a seminar on International Holocaust Day devoted to the heritage of culture, Holocaust and heroism jointly with the seafaring unit of the Navy at Vilna house in Tel Aviv. At this moving meeting between the soldiers of the naval unit and survivors of "Jerusalem in Lithuania" and their extended families, we listen to stories of heroism from then to our times; we discuss the role of spiritual strength, the greatness of humaneness and belief in the good of mankind in our existence worldwide and here in Israel.

Over the years of our reciprocal adoption, we have created a culture of strong mutual commitment to the heritage of the Jewish people and its existence in Israel.

The soldiers of the naval unit learn about the history of "Jerusalem in Lithuania" and participate in lectures and remembrance ceremonies on a regular basis. The survivors and their extended families attend lectures at Vilna house about the heritage of the Navy and also experience it first-hand on visits and at various ceremonies at naval bases, such as the recent reception of the new submarine.
