Shimon Lusky

At the outbreak of the war in September 1939, Shimon Lusky was a student at the Tushiyah Hebrew High School in Vilna. Even after Lithuania was conquered by the Soviets, he continued his studies at the state high school. After Vilna was occupied by the Germans, he was interned in the ghetto. During the liquidation of the ghetto, he fled to the Rudniki forests, where he joined the La Nitzachon ("To Victory") partisan battalion. His direct commanders in the battalion were Chaim Lazar (Litai) and Yitzhak Czuzuj. As a member, he took part in many combat operations against the Germans. In March 1945, he left Vilna on his way to Eretz Israel. He made aliyah in January 1946. In Eretz Israel, he was recruited to the Haganah and later to the IDF. He participated in the War of Independence and was wounded in battle.
