Moshe-Hirsh Sharftsein
Moshe Hirsch was born in 1921 in the town of Otian in Lithuania.
At the age of 4.5, he was orphaned by his mother, Sheine-Basiyeh, and when he was 17, his father, Avraham Sharpstein, also died.
With the Nazi invasion of Lithuania, he managed to escape to Russia, enlisted in the Red Army and fought the Nazis and was also wounded twice.
After the war, he fulfilled his dream and studied at the School of Jewish Theater in Moscow, with Shlomo Mikhoels. In Moscow he also met his wife and they got married. After Mikhoels was assassinated by Stalin's evil regime and Jewish culture was finally annihilated, he managed to escape from Moscow back to Lithuania, into the arms of the family that survived the Holocaust.
After the death of Stalin, together with a group of friends, he established the Jewish Theater in Vilnius in 1956 and became its main actor, until his immigration to Israel in late 1971.He died quietly and gently that characterized him so much, to the sounds of the Yiddish songs he loved so much ...
