Hasia Taubes-Warszawicz

Hasia was born in Vilna, went to the Tarbut Hebrew-language school, and was a member of the Shomer Hatzair movement. She was active in the movement’s underground during the Soviet rule in Vilna. When Vilna was occupied by the Germans (1941), she was confined in the local ghetto. She was a member of the FPO underground and later went to the Rudnicki forests to join the partisan battalion called ‘Death to Fascism’. Hasia took part in combat operations: ambushes, laying mines to blow up the trains of the Nazi enemy, and sabotaging telephone lines and bridges. She took part in revenge operations against Nazi collaborators. After the area had been liberated, she returned to Zionist movement operations. She took part in the ‘Escape’ operations and fulfilled missions as dictated by the Diaspora Center of the Zionist movement.

At the beginning of 1946, she was a member of the ‘Revenge’ group which had been organized by Abba Kovner. She immigrated to Israel in July 1946.
