Rosenson, Israel, "Jerusalem is no Longer in Lithuania," 2009
Memory is not history, and even if I tell in the following pages about the history of a number of sites in Lithuania, I will not try simply to stick to historical research tools. My view of the past is deeply influenced by the end, and since the end was as it was, I do not deny reflections about the flow of events towards a known purpose, which frequently haunts me, and the implications of this perception of how events along the way are studied. Since the end was as it was, it is also difficult for me to free myself from feelings of affection for all that has passed and is no more.
A Jewish memory that connects in one way or another to the territory of Lithuania - this area will be defined as it is defined - does not stand on its own, it necessarily meets up with the memory of Lithuania: meets, rubs against, confronts, collides?! It all depends of course on who is examining the encounter, the friction, the confrontation, the clash of memories. .. I think that my very undertaking to write this book, testifies to my belief in the possibility of such a dialogue of memories.
