Langelben-Klibansky, Gita, “Mi'Yarkatei Tzafon” (“From the End of the Earth”)

"From the End of the Earth" is the story of a Jewish girl, a student at the Hebrew Gymnasium of Kovno (Lithuania), who was exiled from her home by the Soviet government a week before the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. With another 1,500 people, including about 180 Jews, she reached the desolate peninsula Bykov Mys, on the banks of the Arctic Ocean. At this end of the world, she had to struggle with death many times, and in the midst of horror and despair, never gave up on her education, and did not forget her life's goal – to reach Eretz Israel. This aspiration was fulfilled only after an exhausting and very long struggle against the Soviet regime in Siberia and in Lithuania.

The book  is not only a narration of memories from the north, but also describes the struggle of the human spirit, shaped in days of peace and tranquility, with the strong forces of nature and with cruel and harsh authorities, a struggle that bordered on disaster. The power of the book lies and stands out in these manifestations of heroism.
