Bergman, Dov, Vilna-Ponar, land without God 1997
Dov Bergman was born in Vilna, Poland. During the 4 years of the Nazi occupation, he spent two years in the Vilnius ghetto, two years in concentration camps. When the war broke out he was 15 years old. In the action of the yellow "sheyin" he was taken with his mother to Poner, but managed to escape on the way. Later he was sent to concentration camps. He was released from the Bergen - Belsen death camp in 1945. After the release he returned to Vilnius, but could not find any of his extended family members. His brother Yosef, who was in the Lithuanian brigade in the Red Army, fell in a battle near the city of Kursk. Dov returned to Poland and dedicated himself to Zionist activity. He joined the pioneering youth movement "Dror" and later was a member of the Aliya Committee of Austria, whose role was to transport Jews from Austria through the borders to Italy. During sleepless nights, Dov translated the horrors of Ponar.
