Bergman, Dov, "When the Heavens Turned a Blind Eye," 1990

The author of the book (Hebrew), Dov (Bobic) Bergman, was 13 years old at the outbreak of World War II. At the age of 14, his father died and he was deported to the Vilna Ghetto with his mother Lisa.

His older brother Yosef fell in battle while serving in the Red Army. The author spent the four years of the Holocaust in Vilna Ghetto, as well as in concentration camps in Estonia, Poland and Germany. On the day of liberation he was found in the Bergen - Belsen death camp. Immediately upon his release, he returned to Vilna to look for his family but found no living soul. He returned to Poland and devoted himself to Zionist activity. He worked on illegal immigration issues on behalf of the Dror Youth Movement in Poland and Austria.
