Hadas Calderon
Hadas Calderon was born December 10, 1975. She is an Israeli theater, television and film actress, a screenwriter and producer.
Hadas Calderon is the daughter of the architect Moshe Calderon, born in Israel, and the painter Rina Sutzkever, a native of Moscow. She is the granddaughter of the Yiddish poet and winner of the Israel Prize, Avraham Sutzkever. At the age of ten, she participated in an audition at the Habima Theater and was chosen to play a role in "King Matthew the First," directed by Uri Paster. In her youth, she continued to act with "Habima" and in children and young people theater, including playing the role of Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz,” and as Ben in Golding’s "Lord of the Flies."
In the IDF, she served as the commander of a training unit and graduated with the rank of lieutenant. During her military service, she abandoned the theatre and returned to it only after her release. In 2001, she completed three years of acting studies at the Nissan Nativ Acting Studio. Her graduation play, "Bertha and the Great Sea," was directed by Michael Gurevitch. Upon graduation, Calderon traveled to Moscow to study acting with Anatoly Vasiliev. When she returned to Israel, she joined Rina Yerushalmi's Itim Ensemble and played Clytemnestra in the "Mythos" project. After a year and a half, she received an offer to play the role of Stella in Tennessee Williams’ "A Streetcar Named Desire" staged at the Beit Lessin Theater. Calderon has since served as house actress for this theater.
At the same time, Calderon is also actress-creator. She co-created "Aunt Frida: The Museum," a play that won in the 2006 Acre Festival, and also initiated the play "Hagar," later staged at Teatroneto.
In 2009, she won the Rosenblum Award for Excellence from the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality.
In 2010, Calderon traveled to Germany to participate in the project "Family Ties,”- a collaboration between the Heidelberg Theater and the Beit Lessin Theater, where they created the play "My Name is Yeke" in collaboration with the actors. On the eve of the premiere of the play in Germany, Calderon's grandfather, the poet Avraham Sutzkever, who inspired the play, passed away.
In 2012, she initiated and produced the play "Twins" directed by Dorona Ben-Dor, based on a story by her grandfather, staged at the Israel Festival and at the Vilna Festival.
In 2018, with Uri Barbash, she co-produced and co-wrote a film about her grandfather, the poet Avraham Sutzkever, "Black Honey, The Life and Poetry of Avraham Sutzkever," which won The Avner Shalev Yad Vashem Chairman’s Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival.
