Communities in Vilna district

Map hanging in Beit Vina

Vilna - spiritual center for the Jewish people, which has crossed borders and lands.

When the Association of Jews from Vilna in Israel was established, the founders believed that all the localities, communities and towns within the Vilna district, as determined by the Polish authorities in 1939-1919, would be affiliated with the Association. This arbitrary determination did not stand the test of time and reality, so we were glad to have communities that expressed their desire to be affiliated with us (these are a number of towns that were in the area of Novogrudek and Bialystok).

Hundreds of small towns existed around the town centers, but it is natural that we focus on the central communities, with minor additions requested.

Towns data - taken from the parish register (Pinkhas Hakehilot)- Poland vol. 8: Vilna-Bialystok-Novogrudek - Editor: Shmuel Spector, published by Yad Vashem, unless otherwise stated.
