Shlomo Farber

The Hebrew teacher and educator Shlomo Farber was born on November 1900 in Olkeniki (Valkininkai), The Russian Empire (now Lithuania). Olkeniki as well as Vilnius (located 50 Km north to it) both resided at the time (1922 - WWII) in Polish territory.
Farber was a member of the “Zionist Youth” movement. He served in the Polish army. He studied at the teachers seminar operated by the “Tarbut” Hebrew schools’ network in Vilnius and was later a pedagogic instructor and teacher there. He taught at the network’s school in Vilnius and was the manager of the institute throughout the years 1927 – 1932. Farber was active in the organization “Society for the Protection of the Jewish Population’s Health” (Towarzystwo Ochrony Zdrowia Ludnosci Zydowskiej).
Shlomo Farber and his wife Emma immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1934 where he continued teaching and educating as well as published text books and memoirs about his home town and Vilnius.
He passed away in 1988.
