Leo Ray

Leo Ray (born 1950) is an Israeli painter, sculptor, graphic artist and art teacher.

Ray was born in Vilna, Soviet Lithuania. As a child he was drawn to painting, and at his request was sent to study at an art high school. Ray is a graduate of Vilnius University (Theoretical Physics) and the Vilnius Academy of Arts (Art and Art Education). In 1991, Ray made aliyah. Ray is a painter, sculptor, graphic and calligraphy artist. He has presented solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in museums and galleries in Israel and abroad. His works are to be found in public and private collections around the world, including: the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Telsiai City Museum, in Lithuania, the Kaunas Museum of Literature, Lithuania, and the Zagreb Museum of Art, Croatia. In 2000, he won first prize at the International Small Engraving Salon, Romania. Ray has been teaching painting and calligraphy at the Basis School of Arts and Culture since 1995. He lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Ray paints mostly in oil on canvas and often paints humans and animals. On art he said:

A painter can paint, a sculptor can sculpt, and a poet may compose poetry. This is not necessarily art. Art infiltrates works in mysterious ways, and the creator becomes an artist. Art is a lofty and spiritual height that transforms a work, making it moving and unforgettable."
