The Vilners' trip to Kvutzat Kinneret

Wednesday, the 29th of May finally arrived. After months of planning and a fortnight of coordinating, a group of over forty members of the Association with their families and friends, managed to find the bus that had been generously donated by the Center of Associations, and set off to the north.

The objective of the trip: a visit to Kinneret, the privatized kibbutz and a time-travel journey back to the first days of the kibbutz to meet about fifty former residents of Vilna who immigrated here in 1922 and "complemented" the kibbutz which had been founded a few years earlier.

Our first meeting was with the guide, Tzilla, who took us on a singing tour in the footsteps of Naomi Shemer, whose parents, Rivka and Ya'akov Sapir, were born in Vilna and were among the founders of the kibbutz. We sang, got excited and also shed a tear on hearing the background and source of some of her songs, which are among our most cherished cultural assets. We heard about Naomi's determination (is she from Vilna or not?) to realize her dream and the support she got from her mother and also from the mother of Gur Meirov. It was interesting to listen to the song that Naomi's son, Ariel Horowitz, composed based on a letter from his grandmother to her daughter.
