Ona Simaite-Righteous Among the Nations
An unforgettable evening at the Vilna House and a tribute to the memory of Ona Shimaita, one of the first Lithuanians officially recognized as followers of the nations of the world, who saved Jews from the Vilna ghetto with the participation of the Lithuanian ambassador A. Brozaga. Mickey Kantor opened. After her, the Lithuanian ambassador to Israel gave a speech.
Katia Gusarov from the Department of the World Nations at Yad Vashem gave an introductory lecture on Ona Shimaita and then the lecture of Prof. Dr. Julia Soukis, award-winning author and associate professor at the University of Texas (USA) following archival work on the thousands of letters, dozens of post-war diaries and notebooks, various articles and countless press clippings left behind by Ona Shimaita. At the end of the lecture, many questions were asked from the audience regarding the unknown facts and insights presented by Prof. Dr. Sukis.
