Memorial Corner
A memorial to Navy fighters who fell in battle was inaugurated at Vilna house on the 27th of January, 2016 with the attendance of Brigadier General Yossi Ashkenazi, head of the Procurement and Equipment Department, senior officers and Navy soldiers, survivors of Vilna and their extended families, Michael Sheymavitz, honorary President of the Association and Yoav Shapira, chairman of the Association of Jews from Glubokoye.
The project, which was proposed by the members of the Association, was planned, designed and carried out by the creative shipyard artist Leonid Shklair. Major Sivan Rom has worked indefatigably to develop and foster the reciprocal connection; Colonel Shmulik Shahak, Head of Seafaring Vessels of the Navy and Colonel Dudu Yosef, commander of the Navy shipyards were totally committed to the project from its inception. Dr. Aharon Einat and Zeev Leviatan, together with Hannah and Aharon Shiloh from the Association, brought this monument to Vilna house; it is intended to perpetuate the memory of the naval soldiers who lost their lives defending Israel and its values. The unusual monument, symbolizing the uniqueness of the strong connection between the heritage of the Vilna community that was annihilated in the Holocaust and its future generations, will always be present in our activities.
