Holocaust Day at Kiryat Shaul 2018
The memorial service for the residents of Vilna and Lithuania who perished in the Holocaust was held on Thursday, the 12th of April, 2018, Holocaust Memorial Day, at the Kiryat Shaul cemetery.
The ceremony was conducted by Mr. Shmuel Ben-Zvi.
The memorial torch and candles were lit by people present at the ceremony and wreaths were laid.
Mr. Shimon Fein read a eulogy.
Speeches were given by Mr. Adminas Bagdonas, the Lithuanian ambassador to Israel, an officer of the naval unit of seafaring vessels, Ms. Mickey Kantor, chairperson of the Association, a representative of the torch bearers, Yoad Sorek, the representative of the third generation, grandson of Sima Skorkevitz from Vilna. Mr. Moshe Michles read the names of those who perished in the Vilna Ghetto. Rabbi Shaul Farber read excerpts from The Book of Psalms and said Yizkor (the memorial prayer recited in synagogues on Jewish holidays).
