Eighty Years to Liquidation of Vilna Ghetto Yad Vashem 2023 — Association of Jews of Vilna and vicinity in Israel

On Monday, September 11th, 2023, we gathered at Yad Vashem in the Yizkor Hall to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto. The ceremony was held with the participation of members of the Association and the incoming Lithuanian Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Odrius Bruzega, and the embassy staff. After that, we gathered in the synagogue, where Mickey Kantor, the chairman of the Association and the ambassador, gave their speeches. A saxophone and accordion band played familiar songs from the ghetto. Dr. Irit Nachmani from the Yad Vashem Holocaust Studies School gave a lecture on the attempted uprising in the ghetto, which was very unnatural for Jews in the diaspora and that is why it is considered unique in the history of the diaspora. 

Mr. Eyal Mizrahi, from the Department of Public Relations and Culture at Yad Vashem moderated the event.
