Hanukkah at Beit Vilna 2022

On Hanukkah 12/12/2022, a combined event took place at Beit Vilna:

'Books don't grow on trees' / as written by Zelig Kalmanovitz, head of the Yivo Institute in Vilnius, is the title of the exhibition about the Jewish community of Vilna and its struggle to document and preserve its history. A glimpse of the life of the Jews in Lithuania through the books and documents saved in the Vilna ghetto.

The exhibition was created by the Gaon Museum of Jewish History in Vilnius, in cooperation with the National Library of Lithuania, the National Library of Israel and the Central State Lithuanian Archives in Vilnius.

Later in the evening, ZAOKAS (Yitzchak), an award-winning Lithuanian film was screened, courtesy of the Lithuanian Ambassador to Israel Ms. Lina Antanavičienė.

Kovna 1941, during the massacre in the garage, a Lithuanian kills a Jew named Yitzchak. This is a story about hatred, friendship, guilt, regret and self-liberation and about the time when the Lithuanians tried to reinvent the historical reality through stories.
