Commemorating Yitzhak Wittenberg 2022
Beit Vilna and Vicinty, a Home for the Cultural Heritage and Commemoration of Litvaks in Tel Aviv, hosted in November 2022 an evening of remembrance to Yitzhak Wittenberg, who was the commander of the underground in the Vilna ghetto. Gali Ben Ari, Rosa Klein and Regina Dricker from the Nechama Lifshitz Yiddish Art Song Workshop opened with ghetto songs. Beit Vilna was full, with family members, survivors and many participants who came from all over the country and even from Vilna. Giora Wittenberg, Yitzhak's nephew, set up a commemorative plaque in the Remembrance Hall and after the prayers, Yehoshua Sobol told the story of Wittenberg and the mystery of the missing pages from Herman Kruk's diary, as he heard from a survivor of the ghetto, and upon which he had based his play 'Adam' which was staged at the H'Bhima Theater.
