79 years since the liquidation of the ghetto Yad Vashem 2022 — Association of Jews of Vilna and vicinity in Israel

On September 5th, 2022, we gathered at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem to commemorate 79 years since the liquidation of the Ghetto Vilna and the Jewish community of Lithuania.

The Holocaust survivors, brothers Baruch and Shimon Fayn lit the eternal flame and laid wreaths in the Memorial Room (Ohel Yizkor).

After the ceremony, we gathered at the synagogue, where speeches were made by Mickey Kantor, chair person of the Association of Jews from Vilna and vicinity in Israel, and the Lithuanian Ambassador to Israel, Lina Antanavičienė. Maayan, the granddaughter of Ya'rit Glazer read the poems of Rivka Discant Krakinovski, Ya'rit's mother.

Later, those present heard Naama Galil's lecture on 'the liquidation of the Vilna ghetto and the deportation to Estonia August-September 1943'.

Singer Betty Klein sang the ghetto songs.

The ceremony was moderated by Eyal Mizrahi, Commemoration and Community Relations Department at Yad Vashem.
